The Mind Behind the Concept
“Slow Journey travel” was created from a simple belief:
After 20 years abroad, international art photographer Olivier Charles returned to France and settled in Paris in 2008. His return sparked a deeply personal journey to reconnect with his roots and rediscover the landscapes, memories and places that had shaped him.
He immersed himself in a photographic journey along the Normandy coastline — a search for lost time, and a reflection on belonging, memory, nature and our emotional connection to place. Through his work, landscapes became more than places to photograph; they became spaces of memory, sensation and connection.
This journey home became the inspiration behind Slow Journey Travel.
We believe there is another France beyond crowded landmarks and fast itineraries — a France that is quieter, slower and more cinematic. A France discovered through winding countryside roads, hidden gardens, dramatic coastlines, golden evening light and meaningful moments shared in beautiful places.
At the heart of Slow Journey Travel is a desire to reconnect travel with sensation. The feeling of driving through Normandy in a vintage Saab convertible. Arriving at a secluded picnic as the sun begins to set. Wandering through Giverny without watching the clock. Discovering a forgotten road, meeting a passionate local, tasting something made with care, or simply taking the time to look & enjoy the moment..
